About

Maryann Talia Pau is a Samoan-Australian practising weaver, visual artist and founder of One Billion Stars (formerly the One Million Stars to End Violence project).

The One Billion Stars project is a career highlight for Maryann and an ongoing global community weaving project.

The project resulted in over 2.4 million hand woven stars collected from over 15 countries for a spectacular installation during the GC2018. Communities continue to weave stars today for community connection, joy and solidarity to address local forms of violence.

Maryann’s practice is based on collaboration and applying the metaphor of weaving to her arts and community engagement practice. Her other passions include outrigger canoeing / alo paopao / wakaama and mental health.

Maryann is also a co-founder and director of Super Native Unlimited.

Born in the South Pacific Island of Samoa, Maryann now resides in Queensland Australia on beautiful Quandamooka country, also known as the Redlands Coast.
